‘Free-range’ vs ‘free-ranging’ – a small distinction that makes all the difference.

What you need to know about sustainable hunting in Namibia
Namibia is one of Africa’s most popular trophy hunting destinations and offers hunting opportunities to meet just about any requirement and budget. The introduction of trophy hunting in Namibia has been one of the most successful wildlife conservation initiatives the country has ever seen. Fair chase ethical trophy hunting helps to protect local wildlife populations and maintain their natural ecosystems in many ways.
Hunts are well regulated in Namibia and annual hunting quotas ensure that all the various wildlife species are kept robust and the ecosystems remain balanced. In addition to keeping the wildlife populations intact, trophy hunting also brings in funding for environmental protection initiatives and anti-poaching efforts, which supports the local tourism industry and allows the natural wilderness areas of Namibia to thrive. Huntable Game at Kanambo
Free to hunt – no current restrictions
Our first category of game contains all the wildlife species that are thriving and that you can hunt freely. These include small game species like duiker, warthog, jackal and cheetah, and big game species like blesbuck, hartebeest, kudu, eland, and many more. Click here to see the full list and feel free to contact us for prices.
Restricted hunts – on request only
Due to their scarcity, we can only offer a limited number of hunts for the following animals: Sable, Nyala, Roan, Klipspringer, and the Spotted and Brown Hyena. For hunts that involve any of the above-mentioned animals, you would need to book in advance. Contact us to find out more and to book your hunt.
Restricted and rare hunts – on request only
In our restricted and rare hunts category, we have one animal – the leopard. Leopards are not endangered in Namibia – their numbers are watched carefully and quotas for leopard hunts are strictly controlled – but it is perfectly legal to hunt leopards in Namibia. That being said, leopard hunts are restricted to 150 a year in the whole of Namibia, so the opportunity to hunt one is quite rare. Leopards are also notoriously difficult to hunt. They are one of Africa’s most elusive animals, and one of the most challenging hunts you can do in Namibia. If you’re up for the challenge, get in touch with us to see if we have any quotas left. Leopard hunts take a lot of planning, so please book your hunt at least one year in advance.
