Sustainable Practices at Kanambo

At Kanambo, sustainability isn’t just a goal — it’s a way of life. Our farm operates completely off the grid and is almost entirely self-sufficient, allowing us to live and work in harmony with the land. From responsible hunting to renewable energy and regenerative farming, every decision we make prioritizes the health of our environment and the preservation of Namibia’s wilderness for future generations.

Being responsible isn’t optional here — it’s part of who we are.

We practice sustainable hunting

At Kanambo, trophy hunting is part of a carefully managed conservation strategy. In Namibia, hunting is strictly regulated, with species-specific quotas set annually to ensure healthy wildlife populations and balanced ecosystems.

Trophy hunting also supports local communities and conservation efforts, helping protect wilderness areas, fund anti-poaching initiatives, and encourage growing wildlife populations.

At Kanambo, we go further: all game remains free-ranging, preserving natural migration patterns and minimizing human impact on the land.

Sustainable agriculture

Kanambo is a working cattle farm, but we prioritize the long-term health of the land. To prevent overstocking and protect the natural landscape, our herd is strictly limited and adjusted according to rainfall.

Cattle are rotated across large grazing areas — up to 400 hectares (about 1,000 acres) at a time — to avoid overgrazing and allow the land to recover naturally. This careful management ensures that Kanambo remains productive while preserving the wilderness for future generations.

Best Practice

Off-Grid & Self-Sufficient

Kanambo operates entirely off the grid, generating electricity through solar panels and drawing water from its own wells. The farm produces much of its own food through the vegetable garden, a small herd of sheep, and sustainable hunting.

We take pride in using every part of the animals we harvest. From cuts of meat for cooking to salami, jagdwurst, pâté, smoked meats, biltong, droëwors, and even warthog ham, nothing is wasted. Bones are used for soups, and organic waste is composted to nourish the land — a truly holistic approach to self-sufficiency and sustainability.
